Upon hearing about the advent of the promised Last Messenger of God (YHWH or Allah) as promised in the Torah, he was sent by his tribe to Medina in Saudi Arabia. He met the Prophet of Islam Muhammad P.B.U.H. and embraced Islam there, and was given the name ‘Abdur Rashid’ by Muhammad P.B.U.H.

In introducing Qais Abdur Rashid, the Messenger of Allah P.B.U.H. mentioned to his companions, here is a prince of the line of the kings of Israel to witch both Qais and the companions attested.

The Prophet also gave him the ominous and truly prophetic title of Batan from which the word Pathan (modern day usage) has descended. It is also important to note here that Pathan is also the name of one of the progenitors of Qais (Kish) and a a grandson of Abraham (Hazrat Ibrahim A.S.) mentioned in the bible.

Qais returned to the region of Afghanistan (ghazni, Ghour and Zhob) and introduced Islam to his tribe.

Before they Became Muslims, It is also claimed that the famous warrior companion, Khalid ibn al-Walid, introduced Qais Abdur Rashid to the Prophet.

The Afghan historians proceed to relate that the Israelites (children of Israel), both in Ghore and in Saudi Arabia, preserved their knowledge of the unity (Monotheism) of Allah (God) and the purity of their religious belief, and that on the appearance of the last and greatest of the prophets Muhammad the Afghans of Ghore listened to the invitation of their brethren in Arabia, the chief of whom was Khalid ibn al-Walid (Khauled or Caled), son of Waleed, so famous for his conquest of Syria, and marched to the aid of the true faith, under the command of Kyse, afterwards surnamed Abdool Resheed.

Qais Abdur Rashid is buried on top of the ”Qais Mountain”, known locally as ‘Da Kase baba Ghar’,  (literally Mount of Qais the father) which is in the Sulaiman Mountains near Zhob.

Pashtuns (Afghans) from Pakistan and Afghanistan visit the place and offer sacrificial animals, charity and offerings at the tomb.

It is said that prayers are accepted and God’s mercy received at the shrine of this Patriarch.

Nearly all of the major Pashtun tribes are linked or associated with Qais Abdur Rashid and his descent from King Saul (Hazrat Talut) through Malik Afghan.

Though Qais Abdur Rashid is not the direct ancestor or progenitor of all Afghans Pashtun/Pukhtuns), he was the grand leader of the Afghans at the time of the Holy Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H. and the first Muslim Afghan.

Afghans refer to him as Qais the father and all tribes associate themselves with him out of respect for he is recognized as the 1st Afghan who reverted to Islam. Therefore even though Afghans lived and existed long before him ever since the destruction of the Temple of Solomon in ~ 587 BCE by Nebuchadnezzar II, in essence he is the 1st Afghan.

Misconceptions

The common misconception about Qais Abdur Rashid (Kish) is that he is the blood father of all modern day Afghan (Pashtun) people and that all tribes are descended from him.

In fact, he was only a leader (Chieftain) of the group of seven Tribal elders (Tribal leaders) sent along with a group of 76 Afghans (Pashtuns) to meet the Prophet Muhammad in Medina.

  • The Lost Tribes in Assyria, by Rabbi Avihail A. and A. Brin, Translation: S. Matlofsky, Jerusalem: Amishav, 1985, pages 97–106

In the year 622, with the appearance of Islam, Muhammad sent Khalid ibn Waleed to the ‘sons of Ishrail’ to spread the word of Islam among the Afghanistan tribes. He succeeded in his mission, returned to Muhammad with seven representatives of the residents of Afghanistan and with 76 supporters. The leader of these people was ‘Kish’ (or Kesh or Qais). According to the tradition, the emissaries succeeded in their assignment and Muhammad praised them for this. He (the Prophet) gave the name Abdur Rashid to Kesh, announced that Kesh was from the Royal line of the House of Israel and that through his seed God will strengthen his religion. The Lost Tribes in Assyria

It is to be noted that Qais Abdur Rashid is not the direct blood father of all modern day Afghan Tribes. In truth he was only the head of the delegation the Afghans sent to meet the Prophet at Medinah and Makkah. This delegation comprised of 76 members and representatives from all the Afghan tribes which also represented all the Ten Lost Tribes Of Israel. However, Qais was selected because he was among them the direct descendant of King Saul (Hazrat Talut A.S.) and therefore represented the purest blood of the line of the Kings Of Israel.

When different Afghan tribes relate their ancestry from him, or call him the father, it is out of honor and respect. This in no way is to be taken literally.

  3. The point i would like to raise here is, this creepy story has not been wrote down by a muslim. if ever it was been done by a muslim, he or she must have wrote down (PBUH) after every name Muhammad {PBUH}…….. and what the author is trying to do and trying to say is that WE PASHTUNS belong to ISRAEL…. coz presently, most of the fckn JEWs are trying to associate US (PASHTUNS) with their self!!!! coz unfortunately they think that they are brave, strong, intelligent , fearless, bold and lion hearted LIKE US!!!!

    • the second point is…. that NOBODY actually knows about THE PASHTUNS history… who ever is whatever saying is not authentic source!!! some people associates us with TURKs, some with ARABS, some with IRANIANS and some with JEWS…. THEY ARE ASSOCIATING… but here U ASSOCIATED!!!!!!! u got my point right!!!!!!!

    • Let me reply to each one of your points:
0/ Please note this: this site is a collection of references from books written by European, Christian, Jewish and some Muslim sources that are considered the most reliable & without bias by international historical & religious standards. There is no personal commentary or views. All references used are provided, some just after the quotes, others at the end collectively.
1/ The references without PBUH are either direct quotes from a book or they are taken from other sources. When reproducing quotes or sources you dont add anything from yourself. Only the original words are reproduced.
2/ I used only a few references from Muslim Historians because most of our historians are not considered accurate by Modern Historical standards. Bias is common among them. In writing this account mostly European and Christian sources were used. Why? read below.
3/ For your information, it is the Muslim historians; Arab, Afghan, Persian and Indians who most strongly associate Afghans with the Bani Israelites whereas the European and other Christian sources almost always deny that. The point in writing this site was to prove from Western sources the connection between Afghans and Bani Israelis.
4/ Afghans are descended from Bani Israelites not Jews. Read this whole blog for the difference between the two. In simple terms, Bani Israelites were the Muslims of their times whereas the word Jews represents a nation/ race of people most of whom follow Judaism but not all. Hazrat Isa (Jesus) PBUH is a Bani Israelite and of Jewish ancestry but he is not a Jew. Learn the difference.
5/ There is no one author here. I dont think you understand the material here at all. This whole site is a collection of references from a multitude of different books mostly from Non Muslim authors. That is the whole point of this site. I dont represent my views at all. In places where you might feel like that, the reason is actually that some of the references are collectively given at the end. This is not a finished work but all of it is genuine. Find out for yourself by taking a reference book and reading it in a library. You will find all the book references to be genuine.
6/ For your information, most of the Jews especially of European origin have always rejected the idea of the Afghans as being Jewish. It has to do with their religious reasons since the Jews are God’s chosen people. Not many people will want to share that with anyone especially if the supposedly chosen people are not Christians but rather Muslims. Mostly Arab Jews, most of the Rabbis and Jewish scholars however consider Afghans to be Jewish. They do so because their oldest books prove this. These books were written only a few decades after the Prophet Muhammad PBUH (& are included in the references) At that time the Afghans were neither as many as they are today nor had they accomplished any military or other gains.
7/ The most genuine references of Afghans being Bani Israelites are from books written by the most trusted Jewish Rabbis like Saadia Gaon a century or two after the Prophet Muhammad PBUH. At that time the Afghans were only very few and they were refugees, they were not known for any military victories so your point about bravery is null and void. As for intelligence, the Jews rather than the Afghans are known for that.

      • P. Jogezai says:

Muslim bin Israel,, you say that ‘Mostly Arab Jews, most of the Rabbi’s and Jewish scholars however consider Afghans to be JEWISH’
I see conflict in your statements… do historians consider Pathans/Pakhtoons Jewish or Bani Israelis?
And, no one needs to be offended, because these are just one of the theories… some theories even say that Pathans are from Greeks.

      • 1/ Sephardic Jewish scholars/Rabbis consider Pukhtoons/ Pathans/ Afghans to be descendants of the Ten lost Tribes that assimilated with the local tribes.
2/ Muslim Historians Arab & non Arab consider Pukhtoons/ Pathans/ Afghans to Bani Israel.
3/ Pukhtoons/ Pathans/ Afghans themselves are not a homogenous group. Basic Afghan tribes like Afridi, Yusufzai, Khattak etc. by many accounts and claims have their descent from the Jewish people/ Ten Lost Tribes. Other tribes have roots from other sources/ peoples as well e.g. Greeks, local Indian Sub continent indigenous, Arabs, Persians, various peoples of the Steppes.
4/ What the Western/ Jewish sources call Jewish (not Jews) or The Ten Lost Tribes are referred to by Muslims & Arab Historians as Bani Israel.

      • ishmael6 says:

Everything was right but Jesus was Jew because during the syrian invasion of israel the tribes were cast out and judah came back. Jesus was after the exile so he was a jew but the tribes that went into south asia did not call themselves Jews they were Israelites or Hebrews. Same people and religion but name changed,

      • Since its both world and religious history, it is therefore subject to religious interpretation which naturally differs between Islam, Judaism and Christianity.
As Muslims, Islam teaches us and we believe that the Ten Lost Tribes exiled into Media, Arachosia and onwards i.e. present day Afghanistan and Pakistan were Muslims of their time following the Islam of their time. So was Jesus. Muslims believe that Islam of that time was none other than Mosaic Law of Torah until Jesus modified it to some extent as per God’s revelations. This modified Judaism which was the earliest Christianity is believed by Muslims to be Islam of Jesus’s revelation and times.
Therefore the Ten Tribes that werent in contact with the Holy Land after their exodus were still following Mosaic Law of Torah and per Islamic teachings, the Islam of that time.

        Great work dear. !♥

    • lobanman says:

No you arrogant buffoon its because they found evidence of stone slabs in hebrew confirming the descent of the roasted quails and man(Man O Salwa)and entire cemeteries depicting “The Magen David” or the star of David on all the graves. There is more evidence if you can stuff it into your brave, strong, intelligent , fearless, bold and lion hearty thick skull. Face it, you(pashtuns) are from Israel. You are the people who once ridiculed and derided the Holy food and were cursed for it, Prophet SAW came to your rescue and still you follow the pashtunwali and old jewish backdoor policies in your religion.

      • It is a disgrace to your intellect and humanity using derogatory words like you did “lobanman”. You can say the same things without having to resort to menial ways.

        Get a few facts clear:
1/ with the muslim and non muslim accounts, history, facts, places & even ahadith of Prophet Muhammad PBUH, there is a high probability that the Afghans (Pashtuns/Pakhtuns) are the descendants of the original hebrew semitic lost tribes called in Arabic the Bani Israel.
2/ Pakhtuns are the only nation/group of people that are all Muslims. Christian or Hindu Afghans do not exist. (Non Muslim who speak Pushto do exit but their nations/group as a people is different.
3/ Pakhtuns converted to Islam en mass i.e. as the whole nation & willingly because among them they had the old knowledge of the Torah which showed the coming of the last Prophet of the end times, one who was beloved by God/Allah greatly.
4/ Before Islam, they followed the Islam that existed before Prophet Muhammad’s time which was the laws & ways of Torah/ Old Testament or the Shariat of Musa (Moses) PBUH. Following that law at that time was completely Islamic as it represented the Islam of its time.
5/ Almost all the code of Pashtunwali is Islamic by its nature mostly because it came from God himself as it lineage is from the Old Testament/Torah.
6/ For a Pakhtun/Pashtun/ Afghan, Islam is far more important than Pashtunwali which comes second. However, a Pakhtun will always prefer Pashtunwali to our country’s legal system/law (Anglo-Saxon/ British) & I think everyone has the right to follow their culture & tradtion.

Lastly, if you are a Muslim, also read the ahadith about Khurasan (Afghanistan, Pakistan & a few surrounding areas), its people and their role in the end times. If you do read these ahadith you will learn to have respect for Afghans/Pakhtuns/ Pashtuns & not be so disrespectful about us.

      • Jazakallah brother. Thats is the Islamic concept of it as well. After all Israel the name of Hazrat Yaqoob literally means Abdullah i.e. the slave/ creation of Allah. Also both Faiz Afirid and Mazhar Khattak please read the my last reply on my site’s page: Qais Abdur Rashid which gives specific references from valid and authentic history books internationally certified and registered through ISSBN mentioning the meeting of Prophet PBUH and Qais Abdur Rashid RA. (There are aspects of our history which I cannot reveal on this website which would make things pretty clear and acceptable for the sake of safeguarding some things which should remain hidden until their time comes).

Salaam !!! I stumbled upon this website just by chance recently but it has completely blown the lid off my understanding of our past/history.To be honest i was absolutely not comfortable with the notion of being a descendant of bani israel and so my first response was denial of course followed by deep contemplation.slowly but surely the pieces started falling into place there are simply too many coincedences in connection to this being reality for majority of pathaans.the website is excellent but now i have soo many questions and i dont even know where to start.

    • Wassalam
Thank you for reading. I hope you have gone through it all. This is only a minor fraction of the whole. The religious part of it including above all the multitude of ahadith about this very subject, I havent even touched. Thinking from a scientist’s point of view, one of these might be a coincidence, two might be as well but to put all of these together, there are so many facts that the chance of them all being random coincidences is impossible.
At least from a non religious point of view it seems like that. If you are a Muslim as well and put in the Ahadith (called mutawatir; considered the next best thing to authentic), well then, you have the answer.

If you have any further material or suggestions, please let me know, I am a collector of facts from history. I have put it here for all of our people.

This site however does not contain any twisting or fabrication.
It contains only knowledge and our own tradition and stories all of which are present in the books of Afghan and Muslim historians.
It also contains references from Western sources.
Have the courage to read it, have the courage to listen to all opinions. If not, no one is forcing you.
It might very well be that you are not among the portion of the Afghans that are descendants of the Bani Israel.
It might very well be that you are from the multitude of other Turkic, Mongolian, Indian, Persian nations that make up the Afghan collective.

For this story to be credible, kindly mention the authenticity of the hadith of the Prophet where he directly or indirectly praised them and the sources of your story

I also feel proud to be linked to bani israel and i simply dont get why someone should be so upset about this after doing their research on bani isreal. Bani Israel stems from Yaqub (a.s) and I think the writer of this article did an excellent job explaining in the comment section why we should not be offended about this. ” Israel is Hebrew for Abdullah, meaning the servant of God Almighty, this was then name of Hazrat Yaqoob AH. A great prophet of Allah SWT.” For those who are using foul language to abuse the author, please read through this article and the comment section more carefully before commenting. What a beautiful history we have = ) Thanks for introducing us to our won history!! May ALLAH guide us and help us stand firm on Islam. Asalaam o Alaikum!
Very informative article you have posted about kpk history. I would like to know life events of Qais Abdur rasheed(rz) if you have plz mail me.shaniu45@yahoo.com

    • Wassalam and thank you. Unfortunately very little is known in that regard and for good reason, why? he represented the head/ prince of a people who were taken as captives with the status of little more than slaves under the Persian Majoos/ pagan dynasties. From the various books we only get to know that he migrated to present day Eastern Afghanistan/ Western Pakistan when he was still a young man and lived in the mountains of this region most probably present day FATA near Speen ghar although his grave is situated in Zhob Pakistan. In addition he and his people werent pagans/ hindu/ budhmat but followed the monotheistic religion of Hazrat Musa AS until the advent of Prophet Muhammad PBUH. He and his people did remain in contact with Arz e Muqaddis (Palestine) and even sent delegations, trade and tithes (wazeefa for the upkeep and maintenance of Beyt ul muqaddis) and this is genuinely documented in old Hebrew Rabbinic (scholarly) literature. Unfortunately this is the only instance about his life that we can find in referenced books other than accounts of his beyat to our Prophet Muhammad PBUH. Because of this beyat and the Prophet PBUH’s war with Jews of Medina and Kheybar we lose further accounts kept by the Jews because Qais and his people converted to Islam. Lastly, he is not the progenitor/ direct blood father of current day Afghans/ Pakhtuns/ Pashtuns but was the leader/ Malak/ Sardar of all Afghan tribes in the times of Prophet Muhammad PBUH and his title of father of Afghans is like the title of father of Afghans given to Ahmad Shah baba. Hebrew accounts state that he also wore clothes of ancient Israelites which are very much similar to current day Pukhtun/ Pashtun dress of Qandahar/ Pashtun Balochistan i.e. dress like shirt, open shalwar, large metallic taweez as an amulet, and a head dress like patkay. Infact, a recent documentary of Israel TV about the last Hebrew settlements in ancient Israel before they were outcast and destroyed by Romans showed a dress of these ancient Isarelites which is almost identical to modern day Qandahari/ Pashtun Balochistan Pukhtun dress.

If anyone reading this knows additional information in this regard please let me know so we can put it here. Thank you.

i know all pashtuns are not direct descendants of Qais abdur rashid R.A because pashtuns or Afghans have more than 5000 y old history but i am confused that which tribes arose from Qais abdur rashid and which tribes were at the time of qais abdur rashid R.A and which tribes of pashtuns were existed before Qais abdur rashid R.A??
        plzz answer

      • First let me clarify your question for you. The real question is, the people who we call Pashtuns/ Pukhtuns today, where and who were these people in the pre history, in the time before Christ (Hazrat Isaa A), during his time, during the time of our Prophet PBUH and then later?
1/ In Pre-history (before recorded history): they existed as groups of nomads that included the Paktas, the Sakkas and other warrior nomads of Central Asian steppes and current day Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan.
2/ After the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem: Afghana and his Bani Israelite people migrated from the Holy Land and settled eventually in Ghor Afghanistan. Because of their superior religious beliefs and expertise in all worldly sciences and arts the local nomad tribes highly regarded and respected them.
3/ At the time of Alexander the Great: the earliest organization of Afghans into tribes that we are familiar with today had formed so that Herodotus writes about the oldest Afghan tribes and mentions Yusufzais, Khattaks, Afridis and a few other tribes. By this time the Bani Israelite refugees had established proper communication, trade and caravans with the Holy Lands and the local Afghan tribes had intermarried into the Bani Israelites especially the Malaks of Yusufzai, Khattak, Afridi, Zazai tribes.
4/ At the time of Hazrat Isa (A): Formation of tribes and subtribes were more or less like today. The Malak or Sardar of the tribes considered themselves as descendants of the Ten Lost tribes (Bani Israelites) because of their descent from Malak Afghana.
5/ At the time of the Prophet PBUH: Malak Afghan was the most respected elder of the Afghans who was consulted by all Afghan tribal elders in some form or manner. The main reason for this was he was descended purely from the Bani Israelites and he was also Afghan/ Pakhtun/ Pushtun. TOgehter with Malaks from Yusufzai, Afridi, Khattak, Zazai and other tribes he went to meet the Prophet PBUH and became Muslim. However most of the Afghans refused to leave the monotheistic religion of their Bani Israelite forefathers.
6/ At the time of Hazrat Umar: Most of the Afghans/ Pukhtuns converted to Islam.

Or Allah ne Quran mai b yahudion ki tareef ki hai wo agr achi nasal na hoti tu puri dunia un ki ghulam na hoti

    • Qais Abdur Rashid is considered to be the legendary progenitor of all modern day Afghans (Pukhtuns/ Pashtuns) not just Khattaks.
The Quranic term for Jews is Bani Israel. They were the Muslims of the past until they rejected Hazrat Isa (A).
In this way Qais Abdur Rashid was a Muslim since birth because he was on Allah’s original religion and then when Hazrat Muhammad PBUH became a prophet, he converted to Islam. He was not like present day Jews as present day Jews are not Muslims.

  18. Mr. Khan says:

    Sallam:
it is written in your research that
“In introducing Qais Abdur Rashid, the Messenger of Allah P.B.U.H. mentioned to his companions, here is a prince of the line of the kings of Israel to witch both Qais and the companions attested.”

Please give an authentic reference (from saheeh Hadith ).. cuz if you have one sahih hadith about your above statement “that Qais Abdur Rashoid belong to the Royal Family of Israiel”, it will prove your hypothesis, no further explanation is required.

    • Western historians do not accept books of Hadith as valid history sources. It is only us Muslims who give books of Ahadees validity because it is part of our belief. The reference you are talking about is not present in Sahai Sitta. As you might know these books contain only a small repository of the most common known ahadith widely accepted by everyone. That doesnt mean genuine or true Ahadith cannot be found in books other than the Sahai sitta. There are many books of ahadees the names of which you might not even have heard which contain Sahih or Hassan or Mutawatir ahadees (degrees of sayings considered genuine).
In these books of which there are many the Prophet has given us clues. These are matters hidden by God so the sources that I found I did not post here to continue with the safe keeping of such knowledge. Anyways, I do plan to write in future a section of Ahadess specifically about Afghans (Pashtun/Pukhtuns). For now please acquire the following books where references to Prophet Muhammad PBUH, the Sahaba RA and Qais Bin Abdur Rashid RA are mentioned:

1/ History of the Pathans, Volume 1 of 25 volumes, Haroon Rashid, Publisher: HR Publishers, 2002. (specifically pages 68, 69)
2/ A Concise History of Afghanistan, Hamid Wahed Alikuzai, Publisher: Trafford Publishing, 2013, ISBN: 1490714464, 9781490714462, 1016 pages (specifically page 355)
3/ History of Multan: from the early period to 1849 A.D., Author: Ashiq Muhammad Khān Durrani, Publisher: Vanguard, 1991, 192 pages (specifically page 72)
4/ Pakistan Journal of History and Culture, Volume 1, National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research (Pakistan), Publisher: National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research, 1980, (page 9)
5/ Afghanistan: The Afghans and the rise and fall of the ruling Afghan dynasties and rulers, Volume 1 of Afghanistan: A Political History, S. Fida Yunas (this books clealry gives reference to Prophet Muhammad PBUH summoning Qais Abdur Rashid RA to Medina)
6/ Encyclopaedia of Afghanistan: Afghanistan: customs and traditions, Volume 2, P. Bajpai, ISBN: 8126111143, 9788126111145, Publisher: Anmol Publications, 2002, (it specifically mentions Prophet PBUH and Sahabee Qais Abdur Rashid and their meeting)
7/ Afghan Caravan, Editor: Safia Shah, Publisher: Octagon, 1990, ISBN: 0863040543, 9780863040542, 336 pages (another mention of their meeting)
8/ Central Asia and the Caucasus, Issues 3-4, Central Asia and the Caucasus Information and Analytical Center (Sweden), Publisher: Central Asia and the Caucasus Information and Analytical Center, 2003 (This specifically mentions on page 133 that Porphet PBUH ordered for Qais to be asked to come to Medina and meet him and they did and he accepted Islam)
      ———————————————-
The list goes on and on but these are books which can be found in libraries or from the publisher.
As far as the pure historical aspect is concerned there is no doubt that some the present day Afghan tribes e.g. Afridi, Yusufzai, Khattak etc. are Bani Israel in their origin from the Ten Lost tribes. In addition some aspects of this story have remained hidden from the world. With time it will slowly come out.

Q.NO.1 If Pashtuns are Israeli why don’t we speak Jewish/Israeli language instaed Pashto language?
Q.NO.2 If Pashtuns belong to Turk why don’t we speak Turkish instead Pashto?
Q.NO. 3 If Pashtuns belong to Persians why don’t we speak Persian/Farsi?
Q.NO. 4 IF Pashtuns belong to Greek why don’t we speak Greek language instead Pashto?
To sum up, How Pashto Language was formed and why most of aforementioned and other people of peoples don’t understand Pashto language if it the potpourri of well-known Languages?

    • Modern day Pashtun/ Pukhtuns/ Afghans are a loosely knit amalgamation of varied nations. The core is formed by ancient warrior nomads and hill tribes the Pactyans, the Sakkans etc. which spoke a branch of Indo-European languages which forms the core of what is now called Pashto/ Pukhto. That original language was modified over time by the arrival/ influence/ amalgamation of other peoples and nations. Over time words were added from various languages that include Farsi, Turkish, Hindi, Central Asian languages.

Our ancestors or fore fathers among all the nations that make up Pashtuns/ Pakhtuns/ Afghans chose to identify as Banis Israel because probably the first organisation of our people as a single body of people or nation was because of the exiles (Bani Israel) from the Holy Land after the first destruction of the temple / Haram e Qudsi (beyt al muqaddis). This was because of the heavenly knowledge and skills of the Bani Israelis.

However the core of our genes so to say is from ancient warrior nomads and hill tribes of the present day Afghanistan and the core and vast majority of our language comes the variant of Indo-European languages that those people spoke.

Among the various tribes of Afghans (Pashtuns) there are some who are more Bani Israelite than others i.e. Afridi, Yusufzai, Khattaks etc. and some who are more Tajik (Dil Azuk) or other nations.

    • Yes there are many Sadozai people in KPK. I have not much information about Kashmiri people. My research mostly deals with Afghans (Pashtun/ Pukhtun) people. However in the verses of the old testament it has been said and I have given it here as well under the topic “places with biblical place name in Khurasan” that after the destruction of the first temple (beyt ul muqaddis) the Bani Israelites were exiled to Media, Arachosia (Khurasan / Afghanistan) and Sinim (Kashmir / China). I have also given a map of it here (and references of bible verses). Additionally Muslim historians (both Pushtun and others) wherever they concluded or expressed that Pashtuns were Bani Israel they have also said the same about Kashmiri people (Muslim people only) as well. In my opinion present day Kashmiri Muslims (all or most of them) like Afghans (Pashtun/ Pukhtun) are also Bani Israel. (Allah knows better)

These beatiful information have cleard my mind because i was very curious about the origin of pashtun few days before. But now i want to know about specific descendent of qais baba. Is there any information about the direct descendants of qais?

    • There is no known direct continuation of the line of Qais Abdur Rasheed other than the Afghan tribes we all know about. There are millions of Pashtun people and even people who can understand and speak Pashto are considered Pashtun/ Pathan by some. However within the Pashtuns/ Pathans there a tribes who are the original Pashtuns. The proper word for this group of people is Afghan. This Afghan nation or group of people are the descendants of Qais Abdur Rasheed. They are also the Muslim Bani Israel. In Hadith of our Prophet PBUH it is stated that these Muslim Bani Israel are the Children of Kings of Israel and that they will help Mahdi Aakhir uz Zaman. The tribes that are Afghan include Yusufzai, Afridi, Khattak, Zazi etc. among others. Not all Pashtuns are however Afghans or descendants of Bani Israel. The remaining are people/ tribes from other nations/ ethinicities who overtime became Pashtunised i.e. adapted the language and customs of Pashtuns. Some of these are Mongolian in their race such as the DilAzak who are Tajik and Ghilzai who are Turkic, others include Persians (Aryan)/ Greeks etc. However the line (children) of Qees Abdur Rasheed have spread through all the accepted tribes of modern day Pashtuns.

So in short all Pashtuns can be considered the descendants or children of Qees Abdur Rasheed and Malak Afghana. Therefore they are all Muslim Bani Israel.

Lastly, majority (~90%) of modern day Jewish people are not Bani Israel. They are Ashkenazi who are Monogols that converted from paganism to Judaism in the 9th/ 10th Century. They are therefore not the children of the Prophet Ibraheem AS. This is also why their DNA is not similar or completely the same as Afghans. However the Persian Jewish people who are the descendants of Hazrat Ibraheem AS their DNA is very similar to Afghans.

I hope this will clarify a bit.

Kish is correct. Abdul Rashid is not correct. Qais is just the Arabic form.

When Pashtuns accepted Islam they changed the name of their tribes in some instances to Arabic names.

    Masid became Masoud.

      • Wassalam brother
as far as I know the correct name of your tribe is Zadran which is a sub branch of the Karlan/ Kalanai grand clan as follows:
Qais Abdur Rashid > Karlan > Kuki/ Kakai > Zadran
In addition Jadran is a local dialect form of Zadran. Both refer to the same people.

  31. Shado K-M says:

    Assalamu Alaykum and hello.

Zadran/Dzadran has different forms like Jadran, Jandran, etc. Using either form is correct. They are from the Karlani confederation.

Pashtun/Pakhtun people are Iranic people. Some of their ancestors lived in the Middle East. I have evidence for all this as it is part of my work.

This is the right and pure histry of pashtoons afghan which my uncle told me some years before but i never read it in afghan histry books or others links but ist time i read it here

    • Wassalam wrora
Since these are oral traditions, much of it has not been written down, only passed from generation to generation. My grand father also told me the same history.
As for Karlan, there are many accounts, some Pashtuns believe he was the adopted son of Qais, others say he was the fourth son. There are no absolutes here since as I said these are oral traditions.
You can believe what your uncle told you and it wouldn’t be wrong either, Why? history is recorded in many ways. Countries like Sweden at the edge of the world have been safe from war so there you will find written accounts of detailed history untouched by war and destruction. However, for Pashtun we have always been at the center of the world, at the center of every new major war. In our region the best way of preserving our history therefore has always been these oral traditions.
Its time we collected all of these from all of our tribes, Bangash, Yousafzai, Khattak, Afridi, all of them and saved them in written form.
We should not fight on the details since they will vary but preservation is important.
I am working on all the Sahih and weak ahadith about Pashtuns as well. Someday I might post them here too. Even the ahadith confirm a Bani Israelite lineage of the Pashtuns.
      Wassalam.

As for direct link, Qais Abdur Rashid is the direct progenitor of Yusufzai among other many other tribes. Afridis and Khattaks are related to him through Karlan just as Bangash. However there are differences between the link of Afridis and Khattaks to Bani Israels/ Qais Abdur Rashid and that of Bangash. For one, Afridis and Khattaks have even been mentioned as far back in history as Heroditus almost 200 BC. Their progenitor tribes the Sattagadai, Gandoriori etc. have been mentioned. Furthermore their link and their history has been documented thoroughly so we know they are related to Qais and the Bani Israel. Bangash history has not been recorded with the same level of detail. Their most important link to Qais is that they are related to him through Karalan. Any and all additional history is oral traditions or speculation. can some tell me that what was the postion of other Pushtoons regarding circumcision of boys as in Waziristan among the Mahsood and Wazir Tribes , there was no concept of Circumcision some round about 80 years ago except the village of kaniguram, where scholars were found before the Mughal era. Then time came when boys were circumcised at the age of 7or 8 or 9 , especially when Government influence increased through various way like economic affair, religious education and schools etc, and now boys are circumcised in the very beginning . The concept of Circumcision is take from Hadiths as the Sunnah of Abraham and there is no mention in Quran. As far as Arabs are concerned , they even circumcise the girls as well, Due to thir different climate and skin formation, it is necessary for them to circumcise the giril and boy even before Islam. So for them Circumcision was a well establish practice before Islam. As far as Jews are concerned , i have once say a holocaust movie in which the Germans were checking a boy that if he was circumcised then he will be German and if not circumcised then he will be Jew during Holocaust because the boy did not want to indentify himself to them. On the other side we see that the present jews circumcised their children on the 7th or 8th days of their birth with a very special way.

    • Allah’s religion started with the 1st Prophet Adam PBUH and continued however the name Islam was formally adopted from the time of Prophet Muhammad PBUH.
The religion of all prophets was the religion of Allah. This was the same religion with minor differences only in some basic laws but things like monotheism (One God), no partners with God etc. were always the same.
Therefore there are many things of the old religion that still continue today e.g. circumcision. Circumcision formally started with Hazrat Ibrahim and has been a part of the religion of God ever since. All prophets and their followers after Prophet Ibrahim PBUH followed this.

Since Pashtuns are Bani Israel so before converting to Islam they had the same ritual of circumcision done in the way of the Bani Israel. So even before converting to Islam Pashtoons were circumcising their children. There are historical records of this in many books and I have described it here as well. This was a custom that was different from all the other people living around Pashtuns because they did not practice circumcision. This fact is a proof that Pashtoons are Bani Israel because only they practiced circumcision even before converting to Islam while the people around them did not.

I only know of some Wazir Maseet tribes that in the recent past did not practice circumcision. As for the distant past e.g. centuries before we have no historical records. After inquiring from Ulema I found out that this non practice of circumcision was due to ignorance of Islamic laws and not due to any other reason and that too according to them in the recent past but we dont have any specific written account of this in reliable books.

As for all other Pashtoon tribes they have been doing circumcison even before converting to Islam as their is historical proof for this in books written by Muslim and non Muslims scholars, Arabs, Persians, English, Afghan and Sub continent scholars. During Khilafat e Rashida, Hazrat Umar R.A. ordered the sahaba army sent to Afghanistan not to fight with Pashtoons but rather do Tableegh to them and so present day Pashtoons all of whom were settled in Afghanistan at that time converted to Islam and in books you will find that after that they (Pashtuns) followed all Islamic practices.

      Hopefully that answers your question.

  35. shahid khan says:

I have some questions, if some body can reply in the light of historical knowledge with proof.
    1. Who ae the tribes other than the tribes of qais abdur rasheed, usually found in books.
    2. is it necessary that all pakhtoons have become muslim? If no then what is the tribal status of those people? whether pakhtoons or non pakhtoons.

    • Wassalam.
Pashtoon Oral history, tradition and belief says that we are Bani Israel who converted to Islam.
Traditional history however says (as you will find in these pages of my works) that there were local tribes (Paktyans/ Bactryans or Herodotus’s Ganadriori/ Aparatai etc.) who are the progenitors of modern Pashtoons and among these people the 10 lost tribes settled after the Assyrians (Aashoori) made the Bani Israel slaves and exiled them into modern day Afghanistan. Modern Pashtoons are the end product of these people from the mingling and combination of all of them.
Ahadith say that the people of Khurasan i.e. modern day Pashtoons (NOT the modern day Iranians) are the Bani Israel and that they are descended from Saul (Talut AH).

      You asked:
1/ Who are the tribes other than the tribes of qais abdur rasheed?
If you meant the old local tribes Paktyans/ Bactryans or Herodotus’s Ganadriori/ Aparatai etc. then there are no other tribes with those names. Modern day Pashtuns came from those old people. We are all those tribes. All those tribes are now called Pashtoons and are all Muslims.
      Refer to:
      Pakthas –> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakthas
      Afghans –> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghan_(ethnonym)
      Name Afghanistan –> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Name_of_Afghanistan

If you meant The Ten Lost tribes of Israel then Refer to:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Lost_Tribes
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theories_of_Pashtun_origin
Among the Ten Lost Tribes only the Pashtoons are Muslims. All others are Jews or pagans (e.g. the ones in China/ Japan etc.)

2/ Is it necessary that all pakhtoons have become muslim? If no then what is the tribal status of those people? whether pakhtoons or non pakhtoons.
Already answered above. Only the Ahadith deal with this. (I am working on it and will post the research here when completed) In ahadith Prophet PBUH tells us that the people of Khurasan (Modern day Pashtoons of Afghanistan and Pakistan) are the Children of Israel (Yaqoob A.S.) descended from the line of the Kings of Israel (Talut/ Saul A.S.) and that they will be the Army of the Mehdi.

1/ How can you relate all pashtoons with Afghan? Because Afghan is not the name of a tribe or Group, it is the name of a country .
2/ Please can you explain, how did we get the last name Khan? Does this name were been used by our forefathers?
3/ Are the German Niazi are they pashtoons? They don’t speak Pashto?
    Greetings: A L I

    • Wassalam rora

If you go through the whole site (its only a few pages) you’ll find that:
1/ Our original (old) name as a nation (e.g. the Deutsch Volke for Germans) is Afghan. Khushal Khan Khattak’s famous quote is Lar bar Afghan Yo. In only recent history (post Soviet invasion of Afghanistan) the word Afghan is being used (erroneously) for the people inside Afghanistan. This is historically inaccurate on so many levels it doesnt even qualify for a good literary argument. We are not Pashtuns, Pashto is our tradition, culture and language. We are Afghan. Afghan is our Qam. We are not Pathan, that is what others call us, sometime from disgust. Only those who are from an Afghan tribe, can speak Pashto, know about Pashto (tradition and culture) are Afghans in truth, in the actual sense of the word. Their is nothing racist about this. Its just what defines our Qam.

2/ Ironically Khan is not an actual Afghan name. It is a lingering tradition from the Mongol Invasion of Chingez and Hulagu. An azab of Allah. In the long story of history many things get twisted and tangled into the fabric of a society’s history. This is one of those things.

3/ All Niazis (not Nazis) are an Afghan tribe. Living in Punjab has made them lose their Afghan tradition and culture. As I previously said you are an Afghan (Pukhtoon) only if you are from an actual Afghan tribe (father’s side) can speak Pushto, know Pashto (culture and tradition) and adhere (follow) it as long as it doesnt go against Islam which is very rarely. (Pushto is the pre Islamic Mosaic Law [Torah] of our forefathers). My grandparents, our oral tradition and history and historical accounts (books) have taught me that we were monotheists even before Islam. Alhamdolillah.

4/ Qais was born in Zhob but his grand father Afghana was a Bani Israelite who settled in Ghor. Many generations later in the time of our Prophet it is legend that the descendant of Afghana at that time was Qais who converted to Islam.

  38. Your theory/ research raises hundreds of Questions in my mind. He was Born in Zhob buried in Zhob an he was the first Muslim Afghan? How did he got relation with Afghans?

  39. Pasha says:

Some people deny this theory because there are Pashtun tribes that claim Greek or Arab ancestry. The solution to that is simple, Greek tribes joined during the period of Alexander the Great and Arab tribes in the seventh century. To become Pashtun they had to take on the Pashtunwali code, this is what makes someone Pashtun more than anything else.

The reason that many do not want to accept this is their unwillingness to accept oral tradition. As soon as one is willing to accept the reliability of oral tradition everything then becomes crystal clear. Some would argue that the Ethiopians do not have the ark of the covenant, but they do. The Inuit for generations have been saying where particular ship wrecks are located but no one listens to them.

    • Pashtuns don’t deny Greek or Arab ancestry. There are tribes that not only claim Greek and Arab ancestry but have oral traditions regarding it. It when the rest of the Pashtun hear about it they don’t believe it because 1/ Pashtuns are a large not truly homogeneous people over many countries 2/ There has never been a standard go to codex about all things Pashtun/ Afghan 3/ There never has been a modern completely Pashtun/ Afghan state teaching its kids about our history 4/ There never has been a true unification of all things Pashtun/ Afghan in modern history
